Green Delaware Recycling will act as a conscious powerhouse to augment material disposal standards. Through education, stewardship and sheer muscle GDR hopes to set the benchmark in the movement toward a new standard of recycling and sustainability. We envision clean, prosperous communities built upon the foundations of sustainable business practice and individual responsibility.
Green Delaware Recycling is a young company with a rich history. The founders are long time friends who met in a University of Delaware economics class. A solid bond was formed through their mutual love of music, academia and the environment. During the summer of 2004 we worked together for Clean Vibes, a recycling and waste management company that works with the music community, providing its services at festivals of up to 100,000 people.
For three months we traveled over 14,000 miles through 35 states, stopping to work at three music festivals. Every day of our journey was filled with hard work, long hours of driving and more adventure than we could have ever hoped for. When not cleaning up after thousands of people, we visited 14 national and countless state parks. It was here that we relaxed; camping, hiking and reveling in the untarnished beauty of America’s last wild places. However, deep in our minds there was melancholy in the knowledge that countless tourists and travelers like us may be the last generations to experience such incredible locations.
Many of the people we encountered in the parks and on the road had similar feeling. Jason and I took this as a sign that more could and should be done on a local level. Starting from this base, we related our ideas and aspirations to each other, roughing out a plan for our hometown of Newark, DE. Taking advantage of every place we encountered, ideas were incorporated from various people and projects across the country. The result is a locally grounded, regionally aware company well connected in the environmental field and beyond. The result is Green Delaware Recycling!!
